Here we rank the films we have written [one roll] reviews for (links at the bottom) based on personal preference. For a rough idea of how we think of these tiers, see the descriptions at the bottom. Tiers may change over time as our preferences evolve.

Tier Breakdowns

  • S Tier - My fridge is full of this instead of food! Would bid on remaining stock if discontinued.

  • A Tier - I keep a roll or two around. Buying the pro pack. Would pay a markup to get a roll.

  • B Tier - The Corolla of film. It gets the job done fine enough, or it’s something I might shoot once in awhile. I think my lab should carry this film. Would buy a pro pack on sale.

  • C Tier - Pick your least favorite food. That's this film. It might be someone else’s favorite film, but it ain’t yours. I’d rather my lab stock more film from the B tier. Would not buy a pro pack on sale.

  • D Tier - Make your Leica look like a disposable camera! I’d only shoot this if the film was free.

  • F Tier - If I was Jeff Widener in Beijing and this was the only roll of film I had, I’d throw it away.
